Katherine Tyrrell travels with a sketchbook - in Tuscany and Umbria

In September 2003, I visited Tuscany and Umbria for the first time.  I was based near Arezzo on the border between Tuscany and Umbria and visited Monterchi, Sienna, Cortona (made famous by the book "Under the Tuscan Sun") and Assisi.  Many thanks to Wynn for sharing his huge knowledge of Italian painting with me and showing me all the best ones! 


This area has some fabulous landscapes - and I fell in love with umbrella palms.  I completed a number of larger than average colour sketches, two of which you can see on this page.  For more developed paintings see the Trees and Leaves and the Vistas and Views galleries in the Landscape Paintings  section of the website
